GET INVOLVED

Are you in industry and want to get involved? What is one of the best ways to expose students to career pathways? Let them meet professionals in those careers.

VOLUNTEER TODAY

WHY GET INVOLVED?

Building a pipeline of talent in the North Bay – and across California – involves exposing youth to the wide variety of careers available to them while they are still in middle or high school. Getting students at these critical ages interested in the world of work is much easier once they see and understand how their talents and interests fit into the skills, abilities and activities of specific jobs.

With a mission to intrigue, inform and inspire young people to achieve their fullest potential, BrightFutures is a public partnership between the Workforce Alliance of the North Bay and the educational partners in Napa, Lake, Mendocino, and Marin counties. The program focuses on exposing high school students to careers through a robust network of volunteer professionals and best-in-class tools for career path exploration.

Here’s what we know about how career exposure impacts students:

  • Youth who participated in five or more career exposure opportunities experienced 15 percent higher wages by their mid-20s.
  • Youth who participated in two or more career exposure opportunities were up to 20 percent less likely to disengage from education, employment or training.
  • 95 percent of youth would like more employers/businesses to be involved in providing career guidance and advice.

Being involved with Bright Futures means that you and your organization can make a difference to high school students in the north bay region!

BECOME A CAREER AMBASSADOR

We’ve all been there. Just starting out on your career journey. Remember how tough it was? Did you have someone to tell you about the “real world” of work? Did someone share aspects of their career which inspired you to learn more? If not and you wish you did, here’s your chance to make it right for someone else. If you did have a professional show you the way, here’s your chance to pay it forward, by serving as a Bright Futures Career Ambassador.

Meet talented students who are interested in learning about your business and various career paths and jobs by volunteering for a minimum of an hour a year to talk to students (in-person or via video conference) to share your experience. You can make an impact in only an hour! You may never know what sharing your experience at a local school can do for a youth. Want to know a great perk of being a Career Ambassador, beyond potentially changing young lives? There’s minimal preparation because you’re talking about things you know well – you and your career.
